Merle

Merle is a gene that affects the colour of the coat (black or brown coats, tan points are not brown, they are a different type of pigment and are not affected by merle). Merle deletes pigment and bleaches it out in a random marbling effect. It is not predictable (Okay this statement is complicated and way more than I need to get into here, there actually is a pseudo-predictability but that's a whole other genetics lesson!), so each puppy will be totally unique. When merle affects the iris it will change it to a brilliant blue. This could be the whole iris or parts of the iris, one eye or both eyes. Merle is a love it or hate it kind of colour pattern. I personally LOVE it!
