All of our dogs are selected carefully for health and temperament. This is not just a statement that we make to give you peace of mind, it is truth. As a professional dog trainer and a doggy daycare owner, I work very closely with dogs of ALL kinds. I see temperament issues on a daily basis. Inherent temperament problems that owners did not ask for but got stuck with. I know, and know of, breeders who KNOWINGLY breed dogs that have temperament problems because they have money and time invested into the dog and need/want to recoup their investment. And then there are the breeders who simply do not know. They are clueless about temperament. They think being nervous and shut down equals calm or submissive. No, it does not. Think this isn't that common? Think again. Poor ethics in breeding practices runs rampant in the dog world. If you knew what I know you'd be mortified.... I am. This is ALL breeds, not Bernedoodle specific.

Temperament is genetic and can be passed down to the next generation or even pop up generations down the line. There is NO regulatory body governing dog breeders in North America. They can say, do and act however they want with basically zero penalty. They can breed whatever they want - undesirable temperaments, unhealth tested, undesirable structures... the list goes on. This is why it is critically important for you to know what you are talking about when you are looking for a puppy. Some breeders are great salesmen and know how to give a great pitch. A breeder told me once, "I can sell corn to a corn farmer." There is a mild leap of faith that you have to take when purchasing a dog from any breeder, but if you are educated in the areas that you need to be educated in, you will likely secure the puppy of your dreams from an ethical breeder.

Puppy Searching: What you NEED to know when searching for a puppy.

Our breeding dogs either live with us or are in loving Guardian Homes. None of our dogs are kept in kennels or live as a dog pack in a breeder's home, never getting the social interactions and enriched lives that regular pet dogs get. Our dogs live normal, happy lives with families. They ride in cars and go for walks and have all the normal experiences that all dogs deserve. The only difference is that they get to have babies sometimes! All of our breeding dogs are raised by me until they 6 months of age. This way I can ensure that they are socialized properly and have some basic training before they are placed with their families. This also gives me an opportunity to closely evaluate temperament. I will not breed a dog that I feel has temperament flaws no matter what I have invested into the dog. This is basic breeding ethics. Of course all our breeding dogs must pass the required health testing as well, but health testing means nothing if the dog is not mentally sound.
