Sable and Agouti are similar patterns that cause "banding" on each individual hair.  This banding is darker at the tip and lighter at the bottom.  Sables are generally "lighter" in colour than Agouti (they are two different alleles on the Agouti Locus, Sable being dominant to Agouti).  However, some sables can be quite dark, looking more like Agouti and some Agouti can end up being quite light and look like Sables.  For this reason, I group them together.  The final adult phenotype can vary dramatically and is not always predicable.
